Alpharetta Municipal Court is a city-level court that hears traffic cases arising within the city limits, as well as municipal ordinance violations and certain misdemeanor offenses. As with most municipal courts, its primary function is resolving disputes, issuing traffic citations, issuing arrest warrants when law enforcement requests, and conducting bench trials in cases within its jurisdiction.

How Does the Alpharetta Municipal Court Process Work?

The Alpharetta Municipal Court hears the following cases:

  • Aggressive driving

  • City ordinance violations

  • Disorderly conduct

  • Driving without insurance

  • DUI

  • Offenses by a minor

  • Possession of marijuana

  • Reckless driving

  • Speeding

  • Suspended license or registration

Court sessions are held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Arraignments are heard on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, while pleas, motions, and trials are heard on Thursdays. Defendants and court lawyers should arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start of the court session.

No children or visitors are allowed in the courtroom. No cell phone usage or talking is allowed.

Alpharetta Municipal Court does not conduct jury trials. Your case will need to be transferred to Fulton State Court in downtown Atlanta at the Justice Center Tower, 185 Central Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia 30303, if it is considered a matter that warrants a jury trial, and that is your demand.

How to Pay Your Fines

Many offenses will require an appearance in court, but if there is an option to pay your fine in advance of court, you can call the clerk’s office at 678-297-6250 to confirm the fine payment.

You must be aware, though, that by paying your fine, you are likely entering a guilty plea on the charge and could face points on your license. It is important to speak to a qualified Alpharetta Court attorney to know all your options.

Misdemeanor offenses can result in up to one year of jail time and expensive fines. Consider consulting a misdemeanor lawyer in Atlanta if you’re charged with a misdemeanor offense.
